Pen-y-ffordd needed to bounce back from the disappointment of last week’s home defeat…. and bounce back they most certainly did!

Assistant Manager, Gary Emberton assumed the reins in Mark Woodward’s absence due to holiday leave. With usual midfield trio of Nathan Lavendar, Marcus Davies & Si Smith all out through injury, Emberton employed a new look midfield of Chris Lavery, Arthur Doo, Richard Lawrence & Richard Chapman.

Pen-y-ffordd got off to the best possible start with a goal virtually from the kick off as Sam Richardson broke the deadlock within 20 seconds. Brickfield Rangers appeared shell shocked and conceded their second goal 3 minutes later when Chris Lavery converted his first of the afternoon. It was to be a hard day at the office for the Rangers with relentless assaults from the inspired Pen-y-ffordd team. The Brickfield defence was again breached on 19 minutes when a Sam Richardson, well struck free kick proved too hot to handle for the busy Zac Bushell in Brickfield’s goal – Bushell only managed to parry the ball into the path of Adam Pugh who was rewarded for his efforts in following up the kick. Pugh thought he had his second of the afternoon six minutes later when he had the ball in the back of the net following a corner however referee Mr Price ruled an infringement on the keeper to maintain the 3:0 scoreline. Brickfield struggled to maintain any meaningful possession with Pen-y-ffordd terrier like in their efforts. Richard Lawrence ensured the first half was concluded on a high note for Pen-yffordd when he put his name on the score sheet just before the break.

Half Time Score:    Pen-y-ffordd FC 4:0 Brickfield Rangers

The half time break did not appear to break the home team’s stride as Gareth Lloyd joined the day’s goalscorer’s union with his first of the afternoon.

Now 5 nil up, Pen-y-ffordd appeared to take a rest and were suitably punished when Alex Livesey took advantage of space with an unchallenged header leaving Pen-y-ffordd’s keeper Jordan Baxter with no chance.

Gary Emberton rang the changes and replaced the industrious Richard Chapman with young Addy Davies who has impressed each time he has appeared from the bench for the first team this season. Pen-y-ffordd now regalvanised pressed Brickfield once again and 2 quick goals from Chris Lavery & Gareth Lloyd in the 57th & 58th minutes respectively, finished off any thoughts of a Brickfield revival.

The onslaught continued with nimble footed full back Mikey Shaw topping off an impressive display with a wonder goal from the left hand touchline.

Now utterly dejected, Brickfield Rangers became wreckless in their tackling and unfortunately Mr Price was forced to reach for his notebook on four occasions towards the close of the match, with Mark Emberton & Addy Davies being the guilty parties for the home team as they reacted to Brickfield late challenges. Addy Davies almost redeemed himself, bringing a spectacular save from Bushell in the Brickfield goal who turned Davies’ 20yard strike just round his left post.

Sam Richardson collected his 2nd of the afternoon and Pen-y-ffordd’s 9th of the match when he outpaced the Brickfield defence and beat the keeper from 12 yards. Within a minute of this action Mr Price blew the final whistle which rewarded Pen-y-ffordd the 3 points and moved them up to 6th place in the Premier Division.
